Switchgear: Routine Inspection and Maintenance Priorities

Identification, operating condition and inspection records are central to distribution equipment maintenance.

Identification and indication

Routine inspection includes checking equipment labels, circuit identification, operating handles and position indicators. The indication shown to the operator should correspond to the equipment condition.

Condition monitoring

Inspection priorities include signs of overheating or discoloration, insulation deterioration and damage to secondary wiring. Meters, control devices and the lighting of the electrical room also affect practical operation and observation.

Records and corrective action

Abnormal findings should be recorded and reviewed through the maintenance process. Maintenance scope, access and isolation arrangements must follow the equipment instructions and the installation procedures.
