Low-voltage High-current Test Transformers

Overview

The high-current dry-type transformer is also called a current booster. The associated high-current generator is purpose-built for utilities, industrial and mining enterprises to test switches, current transformers and other electrical equipment under current load and temperature-rise conditions.

Performance

Separate or integrated construction is selected according to volume and weight. Output current is continuously adjustable with smooth rise and a wide load range. The brochure describes reliable operation, simple use and safety for high-current or temperature-rise testing.

Use and precautions

For a newly installed or long-idle current booster, use a 1500 megohmmeter to measure winding-to-winding and winding-to-earth insulation resistance before operation. Use is permitted only at resistance not below 0.5 megohm.

Both the current-boosting transformer and control console must be reliably earthed. Raise current slowly and evenly. Avoid excessive vibration during handling.

Keep the regulator/brush contact surface clean; wipe with cotton yarn moistened with 90% alcohol as required.

Designed for short-duration duty. Do not operate at rated capacity for extended periods, and do not exceed rated current, to avoid overheating. Store indoors in a clean, ventilated and dry space.
